How about a feat to gain some extra item proficiencies in DnD Next?

 

 

Extra Tool Training

You gain the following bonuses:

  • gain a proficiency with a tool
  • gain a +1 bonus (to a maximum of 20) on an ability associated with using that tool.  If no ability is listed with that tool, then you choose the ability to increase.
