Daily Punch 1-31-13

I think its time to build everything Ive been working on into a nice package.

Cleric (archetype) Divine Protector

Willing Healer-As per Ultimate Combat p41

Channel Energy-may only channel positive energy as per Ultimate Combat p41

Shield Dependence-A Divine Protector must use a shield engraved with the holy symbol of his deity.  This counts as his holy symbol for spell casting

Combat Protection-A Divine Protector may give his shield bonus to AC to a willing ally within reach as a swift action.  The Divine Protector losses this bonus to AC and the ally gains this bonus untill the start of the Divine Protector’s next turn.  At level 5 and every 5 levels after that the AC bonus from the shield is increased by +1 for the Divine Protector or any ally he uses Combat Protection on.

Bonus Feat-At level 2, the Divine Protector gains Efficient Healing as a bonus feat.  At level 5, the Divine Protector gains Radiant protection as a bonus feat.  At level 8, the Divine Protector gains Divine Guidance as a bonus feat.

Ok gain, here is my first try at an archetype.  Thoughts?

Daily Punch 1-30-13

I’ve been making a lot of posts to the Paizo forums lately and working with some of the guys there.  I think this will finish off a feat tree nicely.

Divine Guidance-Feat-requires Radiant Protection-Any creatures subject to a spell or ability that recovers hit points also gain a +2 Holy bonus to attack rolls till the end of your next turn.

Talking with some people on the Paizo forums and this come up.  I think requiring the previous feat will really help make some healers into extraordinary battlefield leaders!

Radiant protection-Feat-Requires Efficient Healing-any creature that is the target of one of your healing effects receives a +2 Holy bonus to AC.  This bonus applied to Flat Footed and touch armor classes as well.  This bonus lasts until the end of your next turn.

Ring Side report: Winter Fantasy Day 3 and Daily Punch 1-28-12

First the Daily Punch then Winter Fantasy.  I saw the new 5-star DM do this at Winter Fantasy and I thought it was a great idea.  I think this kind of idea should spread across to different games like DnD next and DnD 4e.

Efficient Healing-Feat-When you channel healing power, you instinctively know how to provide the most efficient effects-Whenever you use a healing power, you re-roll the dice based on the type of die involved.  If you are healing a d4 or d6, you re-roll the die if you roll a 1.  On a d8, you re-roll the die on a 1 or 2.

For the Arcanis people out there

Talent

Tier 1:  Whenever you use an ability or power the restores stamina, re-roll all dice that restore stamina that result in a 1.

Tier 2: Whenever you use an ability or power that restores stamina, re-roll all dice that restore stamina that result in a 2 or 1.

Tier 3: Whenever you use an ability or power that restores stamina, re-roll all dice that restore stamina that result in a 3, 2, or 1.

Tier 4: Whenever you use an ability or power that restores stamina, re-roll all dice that restore stamina that result in a 4, 3, 2, or 1.

And now Winter Fantasy day 3-last day of the con

Well the last day of the con was a great one.  My wife and I only had one event.

DnD Next:High Level-Well I can’t get into nitty-gritty because of the NDA, but this was a fun one.  I was originally pretty iffy on how this morning was going to go.  I was thinking of leaving for some more pathfinder, but my wife convinced me.  We had a full boat with six players.  And it was awesome.  I had a blast and really enjoyed it.  Some of the new mechanics from the previous playtest at Gen Con were iffy the day before, but today were awesome.  I am ready to try this out more and I really do look forward to the future of this game.  Some things I want to change, but I do look forward to see where it goes from here!

Things I wish I could have done-

BI-Well I did miss the battle interactive.  This is the first Winter Fantasy I did.  I really love the BI at heroic tier, but at paragon you have to specialize so much its not a fun for me since I like the more skill monkey characters who might defend or heal as a side job.  Yes I know that that making my characters more focused would help, but its not what I want for some of them, and that makes the paragon tier not as much fun for me.  Glad to see some crazy stuff went down though

The sequel to Fiasco RPG/LARP-Kind of with I got into this one.  I’ve never tired Fiasco, but it looks strange in a good way.  I mean how weird could it be?

Cards Against Humanity-this is a horrible game in a great way.  I need to play this!

All and all a great con and I love this one.  If you get a chance, see you there in 2014

Ring Side Report: Winter fantasy day 2

Lets go through my second day at the con….

SPEC5-2 Started my day by running SPEC5-2. To all who run this at home, this is NOT a run and gun mod! I honestly never put this much prep in to a single LFR Mod. And I think it payed off. This is a pretty fun mod with a really cool puzzle. My players had a great time and so did I.

Pathfinder of schedule craziness. My wife and I were scheduled for the Pathfinder convention, but when I went to ask about the next slot, the organizer offered to let us run a certification mod for someone. In the Pathfinder society, DM’s receive ranks based on the number of games they have run. I’m a 1 star close to my second because I’ve run ~25 games. This was for someone’s 5th star. That means they ran over 150 games. Very impressive. We played a great game from my crazy gunslinger and the multireligious priest. I had a great time for a lot of reasons:
1)This DM was great, but I felt hopeful for myself. I didn’t feel that I was completely outclassed as a DM. I’ve got a few small things to learn, but she had to ask about a few of the weird rules also.
2)This women was going to be the first female 5star out there. Those kind of equality things make me happy! I asked her to sign my copy of mazes and monsters.
3)I also met the PFSRD head hancho. Great guy and told me about some opportunities coming up in the pathfinder community.

DnDnext-can’t say a lot here. But group really made this mod. So far I’m kind of conflicted on the game. Great stuff and some iffy stuff. I’ll play in the next season of DnD encounters.

Also, is it bad when venders over 100 miles from home recognize me? Is that bad?

Really having a great time at this con. Always love working for baldman games.

Daily Punch 1-25-12

First, let’s post an item I’ve been thinking about.  I know most players think, “If things had just been a little different” or “I could do better if I had only know about xx.”  Well I plan to give you just that chance

The True Hour Glass

This item looks like a silver hour glass filled with sand.  On closer inspection, when you gaze at the hour glass, the sand grains look like miniature galaxies in the see of probability.  Fueled by your own life energy, this item allows the user to reverse time for up to one hour.  However, this amount of raw power destroys those who use it too often.

As a swift action, any player may use the hour glass.  Upon reciting the magic phrase inscribed on the bottom in the words of creation and turning the hour glass over, the player can decide how much time to rewind up to one hour.  All events of the previous hour are rewound and any characters that may have died are brought back to life as if nothing had happened.  All other characters do not remember the events of the past hour.  However, to use the hour glass, the character must sacrifice 1d4 points of constitution and 1d3 points of wisdom from the psychic stress.  This loss may not be prevented in any way and may not be restored via wish or miracle.

Now for Winter Fantasy Day 1 (for me at least)

Today I work at winter fantasy running EPIC 5-1.  Its a fun mod, but my players felt is was a bit repetitive.  They had a blast though.  Also, we completed the mod in 9 of my Allowed 16 hours.  All in all, I’m looking forward to running this mod for my home game of EPIC LFR.

Since I was free I then went and run a game of Pathfinder.  It was an intro adventure in the Year 3 intro series.  A great adventure.  I was able to play with my wife and five new people.   This adventure went beautifully with the new group taking to Pathfinder like a fish to water.  Everybody learned the rules well and they might be hooked.  Highlights include:

The monk diving over a drop to grab a box of books

The Paracountess flurting with almost all the PC’s

The halfling infiltrating the orphanage by pretending to be a child

The monk 1-shot OK the women who controlled the orphanage and scaring all the kids

A Bard-off!

The children being fascinated by the pied piper.

and a halfling barbarian

Not as many merchants this year, but still the usual regulars.  I picked up Death Angel and Arcanis Bestiary.  Tomorrow should be as awesome as today.

Daily Punch 1-24-13

I was thinking about the gunslinger/cleric in my home Pathfinder game, and I think I have some ideas for him….

Steel and Lead-feat, combat-requires two-weapon fighting, firearms proficiency, proficiency with a sword, BAB +6 -As a full round action, you may make an additional attack at your highest attack power using your firearm.  You still take all penalties for using two weapons, but you may make the rest of your attacks that round with a sword in your other hand.  This attack does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

Daily Punch 1-23-13

I made a feat before (daily punch 1-18-13  http://wp.me/p2Gk5z-6o)  that added to the range you could fail a check without something really bad happening, here is a different idea.  Before I thought about adding a static +3 to the range , may be a better idea would be to add your ability modifier to the range to reflect your innate ability?

Here is a feat for 4th Edition DnD, Arcanis, DnD Next, and Pathfinder:

Careful climber-feat- instead of failing and falling off a wall if you fail by 5 or more, you fail and fall off a wall if you fail by 5 + your strength modifier.  If you fail by less then that amount, you make no progress that round.

Thoughts?  Is this better then the other idea?

Daily Punch 1-22-13

Saw this when I was playing Pathfinder, I think this might help-

Kip-up-feat, combat-Make an acrobatics check vs DC 20, if you pass you stand up as a free action.  If you fail, you stand up as a swift action.  If you pass the check, you standing up does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

I think this will help people who get knocked down a lot.  Thoughts?

Daily Punch 1-21-13

I had to do this, and I thought my Shadowrun character would have a quicker way.

Redundant system reboot-cost 1/2 of total computer cost-In the event of a computer hacker being detected, the computer will reboot the system, but the redundant backup system will keep all currently running programs running as well as triggering all additional ice programs on the system.  The computer will lose no time during this reboot while the hacker will be ejected from the system as if the computer had been turned off.

Thoughts?
