I’ve been on an acid kick lately. How about a new version of fireball mixed with acid arrow?
Caustic Pop
3rd-level conjuration
Casting Time: 1 action Range: 150 feet Components: V, S, M (a ball of slug slime) Duration: Instantaneous
With a flick of the wrist you throw a blob of acid toward a target within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 4d6 acid damage, and all each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on the first target must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 4d6 acid damage on a failed save. All targets damaged by this spell are covered in acid and must make a Dexterity saving throw at the start of their turns or take 4d6 acid damage each round until they succeed on a saving throw at the start of their turns to removed the acid and end the effect or remove the acid as an action. If the initial ranged spell attack misses, there are no additional effects.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd.
You alter the subtle balances the keep the creature moving causing chaos in essence of the target. Choose a creature in range to makes a Constitution saving throw. On a failure the creature takes 1d6 acid damage. At the start of the creatures next turn, it must succeed at another Constitution saving throw or take the same damage again.
This spell’s damage increases by 1d6 when you reach 5th level (2d6), 11th level (3d6), and 17th level (4d6).
Thoughts? Does the second saving throw prevent the damage from being too high for a cantrip?
Turned out I stumbled upon Durable! I am VERY SMRT sometimes! So… time for a new post!
Storied background
Prerequisite(s): 1st level
When you build your character, choose a second background. You gain the language, skill, and tool proficiencies of that second background. Your personality trait, ideal, bond, and flaw are chosen from between the two backgrounds.
If we’re doing the rounds, let’s do all the rounds! Had to double check the rules on this, but jump and climb is Athletics and solidly strength based. Let’s fix that!
Parkour
Why flex when you can flow? Gain the following benefits:
Increase your Dexterity by 1, to a maximum of 20.
You gain advantage on Strength(Athletics) and Dexterity(Athletics) checks to jump.
When you are prone at the start of your turn, you can return to standing without taking a penalty to movement.
You can use Dexterity(Athletics) in place of Strength(Athletics) for skill checks.
The Wife had an awesome idea, so I am stealing it!
Arrow of Animal Summoning
Wondrous item, uncommon
This arrow is made from the antlers of a stag and carved with runes. When a creature fires this arrow, they may whisper the name of an animal that can be summoned by conjure animals. If the arrow strikes a creature, the animal is summoned as per the spell and attacks the target. The summoned animal stays summoned until it is killed, the spell is dispelled by a spell, or the target is killed. The spell is not ended otherwise. The arrow becomes a regular arrow after the spell ends.
Had an idea last night for Pathfinder, and think it might fit as well into DnD 5e as a feat.
Theory and Practice
Prerequisite: proficiency in arcana, nature, or religion Isn’t magic all the same thing, really? Gain the following benefits:
Increase your Wisdom or Intelligence by 1, to a maximum of 20.
You can use Intelligence(arcana), Intelligence(nature), or Intelligence(religion) in place of Intelligence(arcana), Intelligence(nature), or Intelligence(religion) for skill checks.
Basics– GONNA BE SORE IN THE MORNING! Hellboy jumps from three movies and multiple comics into an RPG. This kickstarter is for a Dungeons and Dragons 5e expansion featuring the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defence. Is this a cash grab or something full of soul?
Mechanics or Crunch– This is 5e, which is good, but it’s so much more. This game has the standard 5e mechanics but adds its own touches like new ways to heal in a fight as well as doom and ingenuity. These are new pools that are like inspiration or hero points, but a full new system that makes this feel like the comics. Players roll an extra d10 with 1s earning doom points, points for the GM to hurt/mess with players, and 10s earning ingenuity, points for the players to play with. It feels pulpy and something that honestly DMs might steal for other games they run that need a comic feel. It’s easy to slap a coat of paint on a fighter and be done, but honestly this book does a lot more to make the game its own. 5/5
Theme or Fluff– This isn’t a full product, but the adventure and the overall pieces makes me think Hellboy. Sure I know where the pictures come from as there isn’t a ton of new art, but who cares. I like the pieces here and think that this feels right in the Hellboy world. Heck there is a full free adventure that feels like a BPRD comic. Solid world building here. 5/5
Execution– PDF? YEP! Hyperlinked? YES! The big boys of the RPG world can’t even pull that off and this FREE PRODUCT comes out swinging with solid text design and flow, good execution of its pieces, and a great explanation of how to play 5e that even the base 5e book might have trouble matching while giving me new toys to play with. I would like a bit more pictures to break up text, but if this is the full book, I’ll be happy. 5/5
Summary-I love the Hellboy comics, the hellboy movies (yes even the latest one), and I love DnD 5e. This is a no brainer for me. Solid old and new mechanics, solid world building and theme, and solid execution of a PDF make this something you should get NOW. Heck, even if you don’t want to pay THIS IS FREE! The base buy-in of the RPG is about 14 bucks, and I honestly expect that from MUCH smaller companies for MUCH less. Check this one out! 100%
I miss the old days of 4e where a fighter could interrupt attacks on other people. Let’s make that happen!
Attentive
Each round as a free action you can choose one creature you are engaged with. If any creature targets your chosen creature with an attack and you are engaged with the attacker, as a reaction you can make an attack on the attacker.
