Daily Punch 8-29-14 Nimble feat for DnD Next

How about some extra for those characters who only wear light armor?

Edited version

Nimble

You are built for speed, so you are built to get out of the way of an attack!  Gain the following benefits:

  • Gain +1 to dexterity, to a maximum of 20.
  • Add half your proficiency bonus to your AC while you are wearing light or no armor.  This stacks with any other effect that adds to your AC.

  1. Far too powerful, flat bonuses to armor class or to-hit like this have largely been removed from 5e, especially from feats. Characters with this feat would have an armor class that always outruns the attack bonus of their opponents.

    1. I think they are coming though. We will have to see what the next player book adds when it comes out next year.

However, I think some sort of bonus might help players in less armor. I like adding half the proficiency bonus to things. Would adding half the character proficiency bonus make this more in line with current feats?

  2. This is easily abusable. Almost no other bonus in the game stacks, and it is intentional. The reason lightly armored characters have less AC, is that medium and heavy armors are intentionally better at protecting their wearer. This is part of the game’s balance- warriors such as Fighters & Rangers are harder to hit then Rogues and Sorcerers.

I think this feat is not only overpowered, but goes against the gentle balance sensibilities the game tries to accomplish.

    1. I don’t know about the idea of nothing stacks in game. Rogues get the expertise power that basically doubles their proficiency bonus. That seems to stack for me.

However, I do think you and Sean are right. This might be a bit to powerful. I like the idea of giving half proficiency bonuses to characters as a bonus. It won’t break the game, progresses with level, and does give the characters a bonus without being earth shattering.

I really do appreciate your feedback.!

  3. At the very least, it should not be a bonus stackable with the monk or barbarian unarmored AC, I suggest that it would make the armor class 10 or 9 + half the proheficiency bonus.

But even there it’s a bit broken as it would be not very usefull at low level, and a bit strong at higher lv.

    Maybe 10 + an ability modifier ?

    1. At level 20, you would have 10+ dex + 3 for a wizard. For the monk/barbarian, you end up with 10+dex+wis/con+3. I don’t think its out of the question to get the armor class that high. At that point most of the enemies will still be able to hit them pretty easily.

I was actually specifically thinking that this would help your monks and barbarians the most as front line fighters who need a little bit extra AC
