Daily Punch 8-26-14 Arcane Avenger (Ranger) for DnD Next

We have the Eldritch Knight for DnD Next-WHICH IS AWESOME!  But I want to make a ranger who uses arcane magic as well.  Let’s see what we can come up with.

Arcane Avenger (Ranger Archtype)

Use the standard ranger class abilities except as noted.

Spellcasting

You have learned magical secrets as a wizard would.  You cast spells as a wizard does and must prepare them as a wizard does too with the addition of Hunters Mark to your available spell list.  You gain a spellbook, and cast spells based on your intelligence modifier.  While you hold either a sword or a bow in one hand, you may cast your spells adding your proficiency bonus to the attack or to the saving throw DC as a wizard does with an arcane instrument.  You can only cast spells up to fourth level.  Follow your normal spell progression rules, but use the wizard spell selection instead.  Gain a number of wizard cantrips equal to your intelligence modifier.

Arcane Attack-Replaces Extra Attack

At level five, when you hit with an attack, as a bonus action you can cast a spell that must include the foe you just hit.  It may include other foes as well.

Invisibility-Replaces Hide in Plain Sight

At level 10, you can expend a second level or higher spell slot to instantly cast Invisibility as per the spell.  This spell is cast silently.

Daily Punch 8-25-14 Augmented Summoning Feat for DnD Next

Its an oldy but a goody-Augmeented Summoning.  Here is my take on it.

Augmented Summoning

What you create is just more powerful the other casters.  Any conjuration spell that you cast gains the following benefits:

  • The spell gains additional hit points equal to double your level.  You must split these hit points as equally as possible among all creatures you summoned.
  • The spell gains a bonus to attacks and skills equal to your proficiency bonus.  You must split this bonus as equally as possible among all creatures you summoned.
  • The spell gains a bonus to AC equal to your half your proficiency bonus.  You must split this bonus as equally as possible among all creatures your summoned.

Daily Punch 8-19-14 Circle of Spell Protection spell for DnD Next

How about a spell for DnD Next?

Circle of Spell Protection

2nd-level Adjuration

Casting time: 1 minute

Range: Circle five feat in diamiter

Components: V,S,M-chalk, dust, unholy/holy water, or blood

Duration: Concentration, up to 1 day

Until the spell ends, for any spell that enters or exit the circle, the spell caster must make a saving throw using the ability used by the spell caster to cast spells (eg. a wisdom saving throw for a cleric, intelligence for a wizard) with a DC equal to the spell casting DC + 3 for the creator of the circle.  If the caster succeeds, the spell may enter the circle.  If the caster fails, the spell is cast, but does not enter the circle, and all creatures in the circle are immune to any of the spells effects.

Daily Punch 8-15-14 Controlled Chaos Feat for DnD Next

So I’ve written about the DnD 5th edition Player’s Handbook that I got at GenCon.  I watched one of my players absolutely LOVE the wild magic effects of a Sorceror.  How about a feat to help with the wildness of the class?

Controlled Chaos

You are a master of magic and have begun to see the rhythms that exist in the randomness of the art

You may take this feat multiple times and its effects stack.  Gain the following benefits:

  • Add one to the number needed for your wild magic effects to occur.
  • Roll an additional die when your wild magic effect occurs.  You may choose which die you want to use for your wild magic effect.

Daily Punch 8-11-14 Death From Above feat for Pathfinder

How about a feat for Pathfinder? Who doesn’t love playing Mario with their enemies…

Death From Above

When you strike from above, you hit with devastating results

When you jump down on an enemy from a height of equal to or greater than twice the enemy’s height, increase your critical attack range by two. You can do this effect by jumping at the opponent instead of falling, but you must succeed on a jump check that results in you at least being twice as high as your opponent.

Daily Punch 8-8-14 From the Hip feat for Pathfinder

I’ve been thinking about the heroes I love to read about, mostly the sneaky bastards…this one goes out to them!

From the Hip

Wen you draw down for a fight, you move so fast you strike with the weapons hilt before then with your blade before you opponents know what hit them.

Prerequisite: Quick Draw

Benefit: When you draw a weapon for the first time in a combat and use the quick draw feat, you gain an extra attack that uses your highest attack bonus and the weapons normal damage dice with the exception that this attack deals bludgeoning damage.
