Daily Punch 9-1-14 Magic Domain for DnD Next

If we have magic gods in the Forgotten Realms, then there must be a magic domain for clerics.  Let’s make this happen!

Magic Domain

Gods of Magic like Mystra control and are the magical weave that binds the world together.  Mortals are sometimes called to protect, maintain, or build the weave and become clerics of this domain.  Sometimes these clerics are tasked with preventing misuses of the arcane as well.  The mortals who pray to the gods of magic are often wizards, sorcerers, and those that dabble in the arcane, or those asking for protection from it.

Magic Domain Spells

Cleric Level     Spells

1st      detect magic, Identify

3rd     Magic Missle, Shield

5th     Magic Circle, Dispel Magic

7th     Evard’s Black Tenticals, Dimension Door

9th    Creation, Bigby’s Hand

Bonus Skill and Spell

When you choose this domain at 1st level, you gain training in the Arcana skill and gain one cantrip on the wizards spell list.  At 6th level gain a second, and 12th level gain a third.  Unlike a wizard, you cast these and any other arcane spells you know using your wisdom as your spellcasting ability instead of intelligence.

Channel Divinity: Enhance magic

Starting at 2nd Level, you can use your channel divinity to enhance the next arcane spell you or another cast.

As an action, you can target you or another creature in 30 feet.  The next arcane spell cast by the target has the save DC increased by half your proficiency bonus or add half your proficiency bonus as a bonus to any attack made with an arcane spell.  The creature must cast a spell within in one minute of you using channel divinity.

Also, as an action, you can enhance an already active spell.  If you do so, the active spell gains a  bonus to its DC equal to your proficiency bonus for the duration of the spell.

A target may only benefit from your use of Enhance Magic once even if you use the ability multiple times.

Channel Divinity: Counterspell

Starting at 6th level, you can use your channel divinity to cast counterspell as per the spell with a bonus equal to half your proficiency bonus on the saving throw.

Arcane Blessed Strike

When you hit a creature with a divine spell or a creature does not save against one of your divine spells, you may cast an arcane cantrip as a free action against the same target.

Arcane Protection

At 17th level, you gain advantage on saving throws against arcane spells.

Daily Punch 8-25-14 Augmented Summoning Feat for DnD Next

Its an oldy but a goody-Augmeented Summoning.  Here is my take on it.

Augmented Summoning

What you create is just more powerful the other casters.  Any conjuration spell that you cast gains the following benefits:

  • The spell gains additional hit points equal to double your level.  You must split these hit points as equally as possible among all creatures you summoned.
  • The spell gains a bonus to attacks and skills equal to your proficiency bonus.  You must split this bonus as equally as possible among all creatures you summoned.
  • The spell gains a bonus to AC equal to your half your proficiency bonus.  You must split this bonus as equally as possible among all creatures your summoned.

Daily Punch 8-15-14 Controlled Chaos Feat for DnD Next

So I’ve written about the DnD 5th edition Player’s Handbook that I got at GenCon.  I watched one of my players absolutely LOVE the wild magic effects of a Sorceror.  How about a feat to help with the wildness of the class?

Controlled Chaos

You are a master of magic and have begun to see the rhythms that exist in the randomness of the art

You may take this feat multiple times and its effects stack.  Gain the following benefits:

  • Add one to the number needed for your wild magic effects to occur.
  • Roll an additional die when your wild magic effect occurs.  You may choose which die you want to use for your wild magic effect.

Daily Punch 8-11-14 Death From Above feat for Pathfinder

How about a feat for Pathfinder? Who doesn’t love playing Mario with their enemies…

Death From Above

When you strike from above, you hit with devastating results

When you jump down on an enemy from a height of equal to or greater than twice the enemy’s height, increase your critical attack range by two. You can do this effect by jumping at the opponent instead of falling, but you must succeed on a jump check that results in you at least being twice as high as your opponent.

Daily Punch 7-29-14 54 Card Pick-Up feat for Pathfinder

I’m currently reading a few of the Pathfinder Harrow books, and I think this feat will help.

54 Card Pick-Up

You know how to use the Harrow, either to help or harm, but when you’re done you always get your cards back.

Benefit:  When you use a Harrow deck in a way that destroys a card or cards, if you shuffle the deck for five consecutive minutes after the card is destroyed the card or cards reappear in the deck.  These new cards are unmarked, and allow you to use the Harrow Deck for all feat, powers, or class abilities that requires a full deck of cards to draw from.

Daily Punch 7-18-14 Discerning Drinker feat for Pathfinder

Next week I’m posting my review of the Numeria setting book for Pathfinder.  Here’s a feat I know my players want NOW!

Discerning Drinker

You’ve studied the strange fluids of Numeria, and you know which ones are good and which ones will kill you!

Benefit: Make a knowledge(arcana) roll before you drink a Numeria fluid.  If you make a DC 20 check, you may know the effects of a fluid before you drink it.  If you make a DC 25 check, you may roll twice on the Numeria Fluid check and chose the result.

Daily Punch 6-25-14 Chosen of Life feat for Pathfinder

Pathfinder would handle chosen a bit different.  How about a feat today?

Chosen of Life

You are chosen of a God who heals the sick and cures the fallen.  You now must act according to his or her wishes.

Benefit: A number of times per day equal to your wisdom modifier you can cast cure light wounds.  At fifth level, the becomes cure moderate wounds.  At 10th level, the spell becomes cure serious wounds.  And at 15th level, the spell becomes cure critical wounds.  The DC of the spell is determined as if you were a cleric.
