Daily Punch 12-22-14 Gravity Spell for DnD 5e

I had a dream about walking on the ceiling.  Maybe I should stop watching bad 80’s music videos before bed….  But, this spell came out of that!

 

Gravity

1st level Transmutation

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: one target in 60 ft., must way less then 1 ton at normal gravity

Components: V, S, M (a piece of lead and a glass of air)

Duration:concentration, up to 1 hour

You alter the attraction of another or an object  to the ground.  You can either make a creature more attracted to the ground or less.  This choice is chosen at the time of casting and can not be changed.  If you make the creature or object more attracted to the ground, it moves at 1/2 speed, weights twice as much, makes all jump, acrobatics, and swim checks with disadvantage, but makes all climb checks and checks to avoid being moved without wanting to with advantage (it climbs at the normal half its regular speed).  If you make the creature less attracted to the ground, it moves at 1 1/2 is land speed, weight half as much it usually does, makes all jump, acrobatics, and swim checks with advantage, but makes all climb and checks to avoid being moved with disadvantage.

Casting at higher level: For every level cast above one add one ton to the maximum weight of the target, and add one target to the spell.

  1. What about making it so that it has increased duration and extra targets instead of the extra 1 ton. The one ton could become very frustrating for players. When they want to just “Slow” the mob but cast it at a higher level it could end up going through that inns floor and the such. Where if you make it so it can last longer then it allows the players some flex ability to use it as a way to “Fast Travel”. At the same time though having the ability to add a few tons can make that wooden/stone bridge the monster is standing on seem a lot flimsier.

  2. right now you can get most CR1 creatures, but as you get higher level you won’t be able to hit a giant with this spell. So I added the extra ton per level as well as a target. I felt that would add a bit more use to this level one. I didn’t mean that the target would gain an extra ton, but you can target larger creatures. As for fast travel, most players around level ~five (estimating from memory) will have their favorite wizard hopefully casting flight on them to get them back to the castle to trade items.
